Ahoy me hearties ... yo ho ho and a boatload of fun!
Today's Paris illustration sees an adorably regal Boston Terrier (inspired by my Instafriend Stinger @ohmydoggies) and his crew in the Jardin du Luxembourg preparing for some sailing fun. Setting these quaint old boats into the large circular basin and urging them across the fountain-fed waters to the other side is a beautiful tradition for children visiting these glorious gardens.
Built in the 6th arrondissement of Paris in the early 1600s by Marie de'Medici (widow of King Henry IV of France) to complement her Florence-inspired palace, the Jardin du Luxembourg has a fascinating history of its own. Fun fact: 20 statues of illustrious women and French queens surround the central green space of this calm and peaceful piece of Paris, making a beautiful celebration of women commissioned by Louis-Philippe way back in 1848. I like to think it was an ode to girl power! And on that note ...
Happy Francophile Furry Friends Friday to you!
