Fashionable Friday: Vintage Red Road Trip
{Vintage Red Road Trip : ink pen and watercolour vintage fashion illustration © Shell-Sherree} |
I knew some of the basics ~ like the Hills Hoist for drying clothes in the backyard, Australian Rules Football {designed to develop exceptional physiques in the males of the species ~ with an entertaining sport as a handy by-product} and the wine cask {trust us to invent something to simplify pouring wine and keep it drinkable for longer}. But I confess, I wasn't fully aware of just how many awesome and significant things we've invented. Such a resourceful bunch we are ! The black box flight recorder, wi-fi and solar power. Spray-on artificial skin, ultrasound, bionic ears and the pacemaker. And thank heavens ~ notepads and the clapperboard for movies ! Imagine the chaos and disarrangement of shopping and motion pictures without them? No, it doesn't bear imagining. And we invented our Hugh. What can I say.
But on to today's illustration ! On the long list of achievements, you'll find the ute, a iconic Aussie vehicle with the comfortable cabin of a sedan and the rear of a small truck, invented in response to a request for something that could travel to church on Sundays and take the pigs to market as well. Nowadays, it's the vehicle of choice for builders and tradies, aka tradesmen. But while looking for a suitable vintage ute to inspire me, this image captivated me instead. So we're leaving the sweet pigs snuffling happily around the pastures and going for a road trip in a convertible. And on that note ...
Happy Fashionable Australia Day Weekend Friday to you !

I was afraid I'd missed everything. Friday? But it's past Friday in—oh. I see.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of breadcrumbs, you sent me reading about Mrs. Hugh, Deborah-Lee Furness. What a special woman. She'd have to be, I think!
Love your illustration. The link makes me want to get my arms waxed, or at least nicely oiled.
Isn't she amazing, Petrea !! She knows her mind and speaks it ~ so grounded. They make a beautiful match. As for the arm waxing or oiling, that slid past me... I think I'll opt for the oiling over the waxing.
DeleteI want her sunglasses. In leopard maybe.
ReplyDeleteQueensland Healers and Judy Davis - Australia rocks! but please feel free to take Mel Gibson back home with you ; ). We're done with Mel.
I can see Judy Davis in leopard versions, too, PA. As for Mel, no please, I insist. You may keep him ...
DeleteHappy Australia Day to you and Ella! I hope the weather is nice so you can take a little spin in a convertible (and take us along vicariously).
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ms M ! It was a scorcher here but evening is a lovely time for a spin. :) I hope you and Macie have had lovely weekend.
DeleteWhat a lovely picture, and I see that the Australia Day revelry may be giving her a very slight touch of a headache, but she is the sort who will soldier on and sweep up the red carpet to the launch party regardless. You just have to admire someone like that.
ReplyDeleteAnd if she were advertising face-cream, I would buy it.
Perceptive as always, dear Mise ...
DeleteThat sunny illo is just what I need as we're getting the front end of a blizzard that's supposed to dump a couple of feet of snow on us. On the other hand, I think I'll turn up the heat (on several levels) by imagining a beachy bathtub for two with our Hugh. Mmmm. And a very Happy Australia day to you, Hugh, and Ella!
ReplyDeleteThank you, ma chère !! I heard about the pending blizzard ~ egads !! New York seems to be a blizzard magnet of recent years. A warm tub with our Hugh will be a lovely panacea...
DeleteConsider me impressed with everything on this page. (And the clapperboard -- who'd have thought?)
ReplyDeleteI might have exclaimed, "Get outta here!" when I spotted the clapperboard on the list, Hiker.
DeleteWhat? I missed Australia Day? Let me be the first to wish you a Happy Valentine's Day! Looks like this fashionable lass is dressed for the occasion. Am really enjoying Fashionable Friday.
ReplyDeleteHahaha!! And indeed, you were the first, dear Cali. Thank you! I'm happy you're enjoying the new theme ~ the toughest thing is choosing what to illustrate each time out of all the gorgeousness out there. For problems such as this, we should pray. :) x0
