'Tis New Year's Eve. Come Fly With Me is bound to bob up on my playlist tonight, along with some smoky French versions of jazz standards minus the smoke. {Hello, Hipster Cocktail Party on Pandora ! } Close your eyes while looking at this and those balloons could start to resemble pink champagne bubbles, especially closer to midnight.

Today's New Year's Eve illustration was inspired by this whimsical Tim Walker image. It's hard to go wrong with a beautiful gown and a proliferation of pale baby-pink balloons aplenty ~ but wait! Could it be? Is one of our favourite beaus Chez Shell hiding behind that embellished doodad {which might be a giant chess piece? That's kind of where I went with it ... }? Hmm, perhaps even more magic will unfold ~ and on that note ...

Paris Christmas Daydreams: Eiffel Like Playing with Cartier Kitty

Whiskers on Cartier panthers and bright, hopeful kittens ... these are a few of our favourite Christmas things.

We've somehow landed in the clouds in Cartier's Winter Tale with its sweet, playful snow leopard cubs ~ but let us not forget our tree-trimming duties in all the feline excitement. And it seems they were all out of brown paper packages tied up with string ~ pastels and gold will have to do!

Wishing you a festive season filled with love, happiness and dreams come true ~ and on that note ...

Fashionable Friday: Vintage Glamour in Pink and Black

Did someone say Mad Hatter's Christmas Tea Party? We could really get into the spirit of things by dressing like a giant ribboned gift. When I spotted this vintage Gilles Bensimon photo for Elle magazine 1987 {vintage ... really? Egads how it flies!} it struck me as glamorously festive. Hmm, I guess massive satin bows pull that kind of inevitable sway. Behold the eensy-weensy bag which could be new again, given the current repopularisation of bags you can only fit a change purse and lippie into. {And a stowaway kitten.} For the vertically-petite amongst us who have struggled under the weight of tote bags half our size for the past decade or more ~ hooray for that!

I'll be posting more regularly in the New Year and will see you again before Christmas ~ I thought I'd better give you a heads-up so you don't fall off your gold-macaron-encrusted pastel-upholstered flying Louis chairs! À bientôt! And on that note ...

Paris Daydreams: Pink Scooters and Kitty Conundrums

Hmm, it seems our pink Paris scooter is being seconded. It's been a while since kitty has been at the wheel, so no disrespect but I'm thinking her skills could be a little rusty. Come to think of it, it's been a while since we rode a scooter full stop, so perhaps those who live in glass houses should not cast aspersions.

I'm sure there's a frilly monogrammed pillion strap under the seat. Should we draw straws? Let's not dilly dally as café au lait and pastries await ~ and on that note ...

Pink Ruffles and Birthday Girls

Hot on the heels of last weekend's Paris balcony party, we're celebrating again. {Or perhaps we never stopped ... } It was a birthday weekend Chez Shell ~ and it feels like it's been a birthday month, as I have several special girls in my life with birthdays during November!

When I was drawing this illustration, two kitties wanted in on the action, so I let my pencil do its thing. Mine is not to question why ~ I just follow the magic.

Belated as it may be {Sunday inexplicably drifted away on a melt of party ice}, please join us amongst the pale pink peonies and roses {thanks, dear sis!} for champagne, candles and fairy lights, dear friends and family {thank you all for being in my life, both near and far!} and the most amazing berry lemon cheesecake you could dream of {thanks, dear mum!} In all the fun and frivolity, I forgot to take photos, oops {thanks dear dad for bringing the gear!} Maybe it's a sign I should do an illustrated version. And on that note...
