Francophile Friday: Hôtel de Ville or Roundabouts

{Hôtel de Ville Carousel: ink & watercolour illustration by Shell-Sherree}

If you've had a rough week, not to worry.  What you lose on the swings, you gain on the roundabouts.  The details are sketchy as to what we lost on the swings and who was in charge at the time {I'm sure we can blame it loosely on last week's adventure}, but I'll gladly accept a carousel ride in Paris to make up for it.  Virginia found this double-decker beauty at the Hôtel de Ville last Christmas {thank you for the lovely inspiration, ma chère!}  A transeasonal wardrobe choice will cover us in both hemispheres at the moment, and the bag is large enough to stow contraband of the macaron persuasion without sending us off to the chiropractors.  {Mind you, a massage could still be in order, not that my arm ever needs twisting on that score.}  And on that note...

Happy Francophile Friday to you!

PS:  The charming folk at Winsome Journal kindly lassoed me for an interview recently.  If we'd caught up in person, I'm sure tea and blueberry white chocolate scones would have been involved.  That's the way they roll.  {The printed edition comes out later this year.}  Please read on over here if you're curious...

  1. So pretty, and so many kitties (I counted 10). I saw a picture similar to this http://mlmjr.com/blog/dopeness-photo/runaway-carousel-horses/ and immediately thought of you.

  3. Oh a Paris gallery showing of Shell Sherree? I'm there! (and I can say "Oh dear Shell? Of COURSE I know her - I have one of her original paintings you know.................)
    That massage video made me laugh, as well as the movie promo before it.

  4. At the risk of running out of superlatives . . . you've done Virginia proud once again, and she sets the bar very high. Last week's ruffles were lots of fun, but you nailed me with the current outfit; loved, loved, loved the interview; and that video was the perfect antidote to a very rough week indeed—I've watched it 3X and sent it to half the people I know. Bisoux and macarons to you, ma chère --

  6. hiker ~ and many of them have halos. {I'm waiting for a certain puppy dog to comment on the kitty excesses of today...} Thank you for the link ~ I love that painting and I'm very chuffed it reminded you of me.

    Paris roundabouts have extra magic dust, dk. I'm sure.

    Debs ~ all of us getting together in Paris? Imagine the fun! I'm holding that thought...

    Thanks, dear Alexa! I confess, my eyes were a tad weary by the end of drawing this one, but all for a good cause. And I'm glad you and Debs got a kick out of that video ~ it's one of my all time favourites.

    Cali ~ a Carousel Crawl post-gallery opening will be on the agenda. ;)

  7. Love all those kitties! Especially the one at the top of the carousel. As usual, you've chosen a fab outfit for us. You can be my fashion consultant anytime, dear Shell. And I will never turn down a massage: that adorable orange kitty looks like a real pro. So cute and funny. Now I'm off to read your interview...

  8. My American ears don't quite get the idea of "gaining on the roundabouts" but I do very much see the delight in this gorgeous Parisian carousel and kitty-themed Hôtel de Ville! Great outfit, fun kitty massage video and I loved your interview too!

  9. Thanks, Susan! The ancient Egyptians would approve of the proliferation of kitties, I feel. ;)

    Katie ~ hee! So it's Australian/British saying, I gather ~ feel free to trot it out at your next meeting to discombobulate your work colleagues.

  14. Is that what they call it - a massage. I call it making biscuits, and my girl does it at warp speed.

    Lovely drawing btw
