Francophile Friday: A Fashionable Eiffel Trifle

{Fashionable Eiffel Trifle: ink & watercolour illustration by Shell-Sherree}
Oh, look.  The Love Bus No.9 has adventurously made the leap from London to Paris, and the vintage styling could almost convince us we've lost another decade in the process since our stop in the 60s last week.  Bring back the knotted white men's shirt, I say!  {Or has it already come back?  I try to keep my finger on fashion's pulse, but I've never done a St John's Ambulance course, so I don't guarantee I'm always resting it in the right place.}  While we're so jauntily attired and our imaginary sky this weekend is like the most gorgeous blue eyes you've ever lost yourself in, should we have a pique nique? {Apologies to our Hugh this week, but light brown-coloured sky just won't cut the mustard.}  I'll bring the crusty baguettes, fromage and some cheeky bottles of red.  And on that note...

Happy Francophile Friday to you!

  1. Fabulous! You've really captured a Parisian scene that I'd love to drop into (especially the outfit which looks both fashionable and comfortable). Fun to see kitty enjoying the day too. Can't wait to meet everyone there for your picnic (hoping of course that Hugh will join us).

  2. Count me in. I love this outfit's casual but elegant retro look. Sophia Loren could pull it off.

  3. That's such a pretty shade of blue, Shell. Perfect picnic attire. Who doesn't love picnics? Especially in Paris. See you there!

  4. I can't wait to enjoy a pique-nique with all of you across from La Tour Eiffel. We'll sit outside the Trocadero and not worry about our outfits, because we have so many more.

  6. Kitty was well overdue for some overexposure, Katie. She's been relegated to stonemasonry and whatnots for the past several posts. How remiss of me!

    hiker ~ very Sophia Loren.

    cali ~ I'm very partial to inky French Navy at the moment. I guess it shows! {How fortuitous that I follow the Blues in our footy.}

    Indeed, Petrea! We have an endless supply...

    Hahaha, the outfit is certainly your style, Favourite Vintage Finds. I hope you and you-know-who are safe and snug this weekend.

  7. I'm thinking more truffle than trifle.
    And, Sophia Loren could pull anything off for me.

  8. I'll bring the macarons from Ladurée, but the rest of you can eat them—I need to fit into that skirt in this lifetime!

  9. The pique-nique sounds perfect!(I'll bring some tuna treats for Kitty). The "skirt swirl" reminds me of that famous photo of Marilyn Monroe.

  10. Funny, Cafe, I very nearly made a joke about Trifle vs Truffle when writing the post. You must have read my mind...

    Alexa ~ only if you insist.

    Ms M ~ oh, it IS reminiscent of that famous scene! {And thank you for remembering kitty. Your good deeds will not go unnoticed.}

  11. I love the vintage style. I only wish I had the waist to look good in it.

  12. Come to think of it, I did nip that waist in when drawing her. She might be wearing a corset, Margaret.

  13. Last friday was not so good for our little gang. But I do admire your image of the Eifal Tower. Nothing that the Twyla Towers can compare with but something to aspire too. And We'll have a play date between the kitties.

  14. I'm so sorry, PA. I just found out about your loss. And I'm relieved Twyla's tests are all clear. A play date sounds a fine idea!

  15. Somehow I took a detour but I'm back on the trail of the Love Bus No. 9 adventure. Love that periwinkle skirt! And it does my heart good to see kitty so happy. I'm going to a friend's wedding in London next spring and I intend to do just what our heroine (goddess?) has done in your illos the last few weeks: stir up a little romance with an English bloke and then travel on down to Paris for some fashionable sight-seeing, and a pique nique with kitty, of course. I consider you my travel guide, Shell!

  16. Periwinkle ~ isn't that a pretty name for a colour, Susan! Well chosen. And if any of these adventures rub off on your trip to London, I'll be tickled fuchsia! {And kitty is very happy at the prospect.}
