Illustration of Chanel's Boutique Cambon, Paris, by Shell-Sherree: ink & watercolour |
Last night, I went to a concert and had a simple choice ~ not
whether to wear a little black dress, but
which little black dress to wear. This kitty cat has an even simpler choice ~ her little black dress is built in. She was wearing a string of pearls but remembered
Coco Chanel's advice and took one thing off. {She's perfect as she is.}
I'm always fond of black and white, but even more so at the moment. And even more
more so while drawing and painting today's illustration of
Chanel's boutique at 31, rue Cambon in Paris. In the face of so many choices and so much busyness in our everyday lives, there's something soothing about this palette. Please,
hop on our private jet and join me there so we can window shop for the perfect black: matte, satin or tweed. You can powder your nose
here. Then we can go someplace and invest our funds in some
colour co-ordinated macarons and donations to a charity of our choice.
And on that note...
Happy Francophile Friday to you!
Chanel Boutique Cambon

Chanel and Shell Sherree. A winning combination. Ah, to live the lush life! (Maybe I should have written plush life, so as not to be confused with the other definition of lush.)Or to be able to sing Lush Life like Ella! Holly Golightly had breakfast at Tiffany's, but we have a feast chez Shell.
ReplyDeleteWhat a purrrrfect weekend you have planned! Classy and chic in black and white, with a lovely illustration, and macarons. (Now, we must find an elegant treat for Kitty)
ReplyDeleteAaah, Coco would have been well pleased with this elegant illo (and the macarons). And I'll bet you were ever so chic in your LBD!
ReplyDeleteI have a perfect black kitty curled up at my side and another one curled at my feet (it's gotten cold here!). They wholeheartedly approve of your fashionable feline model. And I am all for simplicity in form and palette. But Shell, please do share what concert you attended in your little black dress!
ReplyDeleteReally? And all this time I thot you were a Dog woman!
DeleteCafe, you must know by now that I am both Dog and Cat woman!
DeleteCali ~ 'lush' is such a fine word but I do sometimes forget it has more than one meaning! My Ella hasn't quite mastered the vocals of Lush Life the way her namesake did. So funny you should mention jazz ... see my reply to Susan below. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ms M! A black and white kitty would fit here beautifully, too. ;)
Alexa ~ the weather has snapped here at the moment, so I had to don a simple black cardigan over my beaded black dress. I felt it still worked, though, with the help of some stunning black and gold chandelier clip-ons a sweet pal sent to me!
Aww, Susan! It's suddenly cold here, too. I'll have to become more Zen about the whole weather thing ~ it seems more unpredictable with each passing year. As for the concert, my dad and I went to The Count Basie Orchestra's Brisbane concert. And as I named Ella's most beautiful predecessor after the Count, it's very fitting that they are described as "purring one moment, roaring the next..." They were fabulous!
Thanks for posting the youtube link, Shell. They sound incredible!
DeleteMy pleasure, Susan!
DeleteI imagine a shimmering aura of pastels in the air about you, Shell, even when dressed in black! I'm sure you looked divine.
ReplyDeleteYou've always been "fond of BnW"?
ReplyDeleteOk, but it seems to come out in color here!
A very practical reason to accessorize, else there's nothing to lose but the little black dress. A concert in Brisbane on a cool night, sounds rawther dreamy.
ReplyDelete"Take one thing off." I like that, though Susan's right, it's gotten cool here and I won't be giving up my extra layer. Maybe I'll add and take away the pearls.
ReplyDeleteThats what I like about your blog (plus the drawings of course) is that you take me on a spin I''ll never experience in my right here right now life. oh and did I mention your love of cats? that too
ReplyDeleteMise ~ what a lovely notion!! Red lipstick was probably called for, but I couldn't go past my customary pink...
ReplyDeleteCafe ~ maybe that's one of the reasons I love black and white so much ~ they are fetching companions for pastels.
Hiker ~ I had been looking forward to breaking out something from the summery part of my wardrobe but it wasn't to be. It was a lovely night, all the same!
Petrea ~ speaking of pearls, your wisdom's showing again.
Thanks, Pasadena Adjacent! Does my heart glad to hear such things.
awww....such a sweet little kitty!
ReplyDeleteyou are sooo talented Miss Sherree.
Kitty definitely looks like she belongs here! Oh to be able to pull off a chic black Chanel outfit. I do fear the best I can do is black jeans and a black sweater. Sounds like you had a delightful evening out at the concert. Fun to dress up and go out!
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks, sweet Lily!
ReplyDeleteKatie ~ black jeans and sweater sound very good to me! But you're right, it was fun to play dress up.
It is hard not to love Chanel... I can remember as a teenager wearing pearls and my mom's Chanel No.5 The color palette is as chic as your delightful art.
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
Thanks, Genie ~ those are lovely memories.
