There's rarely a deep and meaningful reason why I draw a certain subject matter.
"Ooh, that's pretty!" is usually enough. And I remember clearly having that thought years ago over this gracious old dame on Ann Street, Brisbane. She provides one of many delightful little heritage flourishes amongst the standard office blocks in the middle of the CBD. We can safely say she was home to the
School of Arts at one time, but I know little else of her history. So about all I can offer you for now is,
"Ooh, that's pretty!" and procure some appropriate attire. I feel
smocks are in order for our visit. And
Singapore Slings on the upstairs verandah to counter the colonial humidity. And on that note...
Happy Factual Friday to you!
There's a gang of us huddled here in the yellow car, wondering whether the smocks are just a little TOO transparent (at our age), but a Singapore Sling should set our minds at rest.
ReplyDeletei do LOVE the old houses of BrisVegas... so much character... lovely x
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous house! Very much reminds me of New Orleans, and the top part looks like a San Francisco cable car. I'll take one of those smocks in black (better to hide the sloshing Singapore Slings as I wave hello to all the arriving party guests).
ReplyDeleteSingapore Slings? Not with those stairs.
ReplyDeleteJust saw your suggestion for a Slow Architecture Movement over at VDP. Excellent idea, and this beautiful little building could be a prime example (and its next-door neighbor the opposite). Wonderful venue for the School of Arts—who wouldn't be inspired to create here?
ReplyDeleteThat's a wonderful building!(and ileo!)I hope it's being preserved.
ReplyDeleteLike Katie, I'll take a black smock and look forward to an "artful" visit, and relaxing on the veranda. Happy weekend to you, Shell!
A very charming building with a killer veranda! Wouldn't we all look divine prancing around in our smocks (I'll take white!) drinking Slings and other libations?
ReplyDeleteMy smock: red.
ReplyDeleteMy drink: whatever you all are having.
My shoes: Singapore slingbacks. I'll take the stairs in bare feet and put them on when we get inside.
Mise ~ if it helps to reassure you, this is transparent...
ReplyDeletedkshopgirl ~ they have a lovely charm, as do you.
Katie ~ ah yes, for hiding a multitude of sins ~ there's nothing like black!
Oh, Hiker ~ do you really think we'd be carrying our own drinks up the stairs?
Alexa ~ a-ha ~ it looks like our Slow Architecture movement is gaining momentum...
Ms M ~ I will make a point of driving by sometime soon and I'll let you know. It's ages since I've looked at it!
Cali ~ we'd be positively fetching!
Petrea ~ or someone can carry you. I like that idea.
Not gaining too much momentum, surely.
ReplyDeleteHeh! Good point, Petrea.
ReplyDeleteThe veranda is perfect for shelter from the sun and a cozy spot to watch a rainstorm... I'll have a petite beverage and will bring some cheese straws for munching.
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
Genie ~ we're certainly having plenty of rainstorms, so we'll put that to the test.
ReplyDelete"Ooh, that's pretty!" is reason enough for me to enjoy this charming illo. Does the smock come in midnight blue? Or perhaps I'll wear jeans and that yellow smock-like shirt on your pinboard. So many wonderful options in your wardrobe! I now want a haircut and to go shopping.
ReplyDeleteThe smock comes in whatever colour and shade you dream up, Susan. Close your eyes, make a wish... ;)
DeleteHi Sherree..how are u? It's been a while we didn't 'hang out' together!
ReplyDeletePs: Always adore ur pieces.
Hello, Finie!! I was just thinking of you the other day. I'll pop over and see you for a long-overdue visit.
DeleteWho needs history when we have smocks and Singapore slings. Ooh that's pretty is always reason enough for me.
ReplyDeleteHee! I feel better about my historical inadequacies now, thanks, Debs.
DeleteI wonder if I'm too late to join the party on the verandah, but then if Singapore Slings are the order of the day then I'm pretty sure the party will still be in full swing. Ooh that's pretty is very apt - such a lovely old house. x
ReplyDeleteYou could never be too late here, Amanda. Time moves in a different fashion altogether Chez Shell Sherree. Here's your Singapore Sling and a jamon-wrapped, goat's cheese-stuffed caramelised fig...
DeleteHooray, finally we can reply to comments individually ~ thank you, dear Blogger pixies... you're amazing.
