Venerdi in Venice: Morning Muneghete

ink & watercolour illustration, 7" x 8.75" [18 x 22.5cm] ACQUIRE PRINTS

Just another morning of quiet reflection in Venice.  The weather's fine.  The coffee is brewing on the stovetop.  The tiny pussycat is wondering whether the boat is aqua with a pea green cover or pea green with an aqua bottom.  The air is rich with the promise of an owl.  Thanks to Danielle at VenetiaMicio for her gorgeous inspiration ~ I followed her lead and named the aqua pea green boat in her honour.  This seems the perfect excuse for a magnum of champagne and the opinion of a man named Hugh.  And on that note...

Happy Venerdi in Venice to you!

  1. Oh, let me be the first to say that I could reflect on this peaceful corner of Venice for hours—especially if I was joined by our Hugh! Love the little spots of color (our fave, n'est-ce pas?) scattered throughout.

  4. Alexa ~ you know my love of aqua well... As for Hugh, he'd make anywhere an even nicer place to be, wouldn't he!

V ~ someone did. And hooray!

Thanks, Kellie ~ have a beautiful weekend.

  8. I think you have to release Hugh for a month or two, just time enough to make a film and replenish the coffers. That champagne doesn't grow on trees, you know.

  9. The promise of an owl - it sounds like an intellectual thriller or a guide to attaining one's fuller self. Either way, I'm intrigued by it, and will have to lie down in the swaying bottom of something pea-green and ponder further.

  10. I'll happily sit and stare out at this beautiful view all day (although maybe not in the same spot as kitty) sipping coffee (until it's time to switch to champagne) waiting for Hugh to arrive. Thanks for kicking the weekend off in such grand Venice style!

  11. Another wonderful piece to dream in to...
I'd almost forgotten about that poem. When I was very young, I had an LP of kid's poems set to music, and The Owl and the Pussycat was one of them. I can still remember the melody.

  12. dkshopgirl ~ I hope you do see one someday!

    Thanks, AnnaLivia ~ you, too!

VenetiaMicio ~ c'est mon plaisir. Merci, grazie mille. Bon weekend...

Hiker ~ oh, all right then. Mumble mumble. If we must. Just for one month.

Mise ~ if you have any challenges with the swaying motion, I hear ginger works a treat.

Katie ~ it's somewhat cramped in kitty's quarters. But the view from inside is less perilous and equally fine.

Ms M ~ that LP sounds so sweet!

  13. I'm still loving that shade of blue in the bottom right corner. So calm and refreshing.

  14. I had to look very closely to find kitty! Looks like she is about to take a flying leap into Hugh's lap. As soon as he arrives, that is.

wv: beharks (as in be still my aching beharks or my beharks belongs to Hughdaddy)

  15. Thanks, Margaret ~ sounds like a good thing.

Yes, kitty is very well-hidden in this one, Cali! As for beharks, if that isn't a real word, it should be...

  16. Paris is my first love, but you make Venice very enticing indeed. I can smell the coffee brewing and hear the water lapping on the aqua/pea green boat. Ahhh, I feel more relaxed already.

  17. Yay! Back in Venice again. I saw a sweet little kitten in the pet shop today who was the dead spit of yours. Better check that yours hasn't escaped to the tropics.

Could I have spritz and Johnny, then I don't have to share, either. :-)

  18. Susan ~ speaking of lapping, I think kitty's about to head inside for some milk.

Say, maybe her doppelganger lives in the tropics, Y. As for Johnny, that's a good idea if you can get away with it!

  19. I'll bet Hugh follows your blog, just for his ego's sake. Not that he would need to.

Another charmer, Shell, and Danielle's pics are luscious, too.
