Venerdi in Venice: Arte Moderna e Meepea

ink & watercolour weensy meep miniature, 3.5" x 2.5" [9 x 6.5cm] ACQUIRE A MEEP

After Tuesday's high risk of a fire hydrant incident {albeit a fetching one}, I thought I'd raise the tone by taking us for a classy wander to this art gallery in Venice, in the Campo San Stefano.  The only incident potential I see here is one of our voluminous totes knocking a Murano glass sculpture from its plinth, so let's see if we can divert Hugh from his gondolier duties and put him in charge of minding our bags.  Today's diversion also gives me a handy excuse to thank Pierre of Venice Daily Photo again, not just for today's inspiration, but for his thoughtful and generous feature of our ~ well, I guess you could call them "collaborations after the fact".  Grazie mille, dear Pierre!  Your kindness is beyond measure.

As for the kitty, unlike the young man in the original photo, she refuses to spend a lovely Friday engrossed in her laptop and missing the chance of gelato with her friends.  I vote that we take a leaf from her book {after we've all dropped in on each other's blogs, of course!}  And on that note...

Happy Venerdi in Venice to you!

  1. Love the decorative details! Beckoning doorway complete with a beckoning kitty! Happy weekend Shell! :)

  2. Kitty seems to have made a good choice. I'll endeavor to follow her lead.

  3. That Hugh's a treasure, isn't he? He also gives a very good massage.

Our kitty is an optical illusion. I can see two heads or one.

  4. Meep. Perfectly charming. And I happen to know, from extensive personal experience (miam), that there is an excellent gelateria very, very nearby—kitty could probably get there in three jumps! (I much prefer the puss to the boy with face in computer, Shell.)

  5. Hey, that's a pretty neat trick how the kitty morphed into a man in Pierre's photo!

Wait, how come altadenahiker got a massage from Hugh? All he did was cuddle me and buy me a car.

Off to have some pistachio gelato. Happy weekend, everyone!

P.S. My WV was "anusm." Kinda dangerous, that word.

  6. Favourite Vintage Finds ~ yes, I likes me some decorative features, too. Happy weekend, C!

    Margaret ~ bonne chance.

Hiker ~ My first thought was, "She's been eating too many tomatoes again." {Re: kitty, not Hugh.} Then I saw it myself. I didn't intend to do that ~ how curious!

Thanks, Alexa ~ somehow, I just knew you'd know the closest source! ;)

PCN and Hiker ~ ok, how about a gelato-eating contest to settle this. Into your corners and choose your flavours...

  7. I prefer your drawing with the little dog, I don't like when people seat down in front the beautiful places in Venice ...
    Sorry for my english.

  9. What a surprise to find a boy instead of a kitty in Pierre's photo! Oh to be able to step right into this illo and share some gelato with all of you and Meepea. She is the Italian cousin to Virginia's Meeps, non? Comment dit-on Meep en français? (Very impressive French, missy!)

  10. A trip to a gallery is just the ticket. Perhaps we could bring the trusty Hugh a gelato (as well as a nice tip)

  11. I"m late because I was rolling out the welcome mat for my new Meeps! As I type she's curled in my lap purring away. She says to tell all of you hello and she'll be checking your kitties etc everyday along with me dear Shell.

After just one day she's decided the spot on my desk behind the computer is a good place to sniff around and occassionally tippy toes across the keyboard. Cat Blog coming up.

  12. Thanks, Cali! I have to try and dislodge some of those layers of rust from my French when I get the chance. And this kitty and Virginia's Meeps are related in name, at the very least.

Ms M ~ by all means, we must pamper our Hugh. We can take turns with foot rubs as well.

Oh, hello, Meeps ~ welcome, little one! Virginia, there is nothing like the purr of a contented kitty {well, the contentment of her mum must be close}. Your little Meeps is settling in beautifully, isn't she! I'm so happy for you both. I'll bet Amy had no idea what she was starting that day so long ago...

  13. Wait. Hiker got a massage, PCN got a cuddle and a car, and Virginia got a cat? I am so out of the loop.

Lovely illo, Shell. They should have your drawings on the walls in this gallery.

  14. Thanks, Petrea! Wait ~ there's a loop?

  15. I love the inspiration for this illustration. But I agree, the cat has more of the right idea. Plus the guy with the laptop looks cold. Go inside somewhere heated!

Thanks for this little meep - it's very lovely.

  16. Amy ~ as the official inventor of the word Meep, I feel we need to give you a crown, sash and sceptre. Thank you for starting something so enchanting!

  17. You know, I'll take any reason to wear a crown!

  18. Excellent! Let the coronation begin...
