When someone says, "That's a
grey area," {or "gray" area depending one's relationship to Her Majesty}, perhaps they are talking about this little spot in Venice, where one would love to walk up those stairs and be plied with
home-made mushroom ravioli bathed in sage butter, accompanied by a rough loaf of crusty bread and earthy olive oil. But since the door and shutters are firmly closed and one doesn't even know the inhabitants, the warmth of the welcome could be a grey area. In my imagination, though, it's definitely a friendly one, laden with smiles, gesticulations and gregarious Italian calories. Happy Venerdi in Venice to you!
Does this area really exist? Who wouldn't be tempted to climb this stairway to the stars and live happily ever after!
ReplyDeleteCali ~ It does. And based on the time of your comment, it looks like you decided to climb a stairway to the stars instead of going to bed. :) Beautiful link - thank you!
ReplyDeleteHow about the mushrooms ravioli? Are those real? You're making me very hungry.
ReplyDeleteMargaret ~ if it's any consolation, I made myself hungry!
ReplyDeleteDo you remember it is breakfast time right now in France ? !!
ReplyDeleteSo I just keep the bread ...... and the house !!
Thanks to you, I am now regretting to have chosen to go to the US instead of Venice for our 30th wedding anniversary !!!!! Are you proud of youself ? LOL
No, Alexa, I am kidding, I am so glad to go back to DC and NYC !!!!
It's bedtime in California and I'm hungry! A vacation in Venice for dessert, please.
ReplyDeleteIt's almost 3 AM in NYC and now I'm hungry too. Not getting to Venice this year (bloody economy!), so thank goodness for Shell who's been taking us there on a regular basis. (In my imagination I possess the keys to this place, and am about to throw open the shutters and let the sunshine—and whoever wants to visit—in.)
ReplyDeleteMarylene -- I believe I suggested you should go to Venice for your 30th, but I'm glad you're coming here!
Marylène ~ I'm happy to tide you over with drawings until you can get there again for the next special occasion after your 30th anniversary! Oh, what fun you'll have visiting Alexa's sights.
ReplyDeletePetrea ~ sounds like you need to hit the Italian deli to tide yourself over again... so do I!
Thanks, Alexa!! We'll all be wanting to visit you, whether in Venice or NYC!
They'd need more than closed doors and shutters to keep me away from their mushroom ravioli and bread!
ReplyDeleteMarylene, I'm from D.C. so I'm a bit envious you'll be there soon. (I currently live in L.A.) I hope you have a great time, say hi to my folks and bring bug spray.
PCN ~ what if they sent Daniel Craig out to distract you - would that throw you off the scent?
ReplyDeleteWoW! your such a talented girl! Hmmm... Venice? have you been there? Love every step I had there.
ReplyDeleteJob well done and how I wish I visit again this fabulous city again on my 50th BDay in a week §:-)
